A physicist by training, Pete Alonzi is one of the Library’s data science experts. He provides computational and data science consultation support and training, including support around advanced computing architecture at UVA. As part of the Research Data Services group, Pete works with colleagues to advance the expert use of computational methods and data analytics in support of research across the University. Pete also serves as the liaison to the Physics and Computer Science departments.
Pete holds a Ph.D. in particle physics. His specialty is the study of muons, pions and the weak force. This work has taken him to particle accelerators from Menlo Park to Chicago and Zürich. Pete’s previous posting was as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Experimental Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Washington. Pete is an Eagle Scout.
