Richard Brautigan San Francisco and Santa Barbara: Printed by Graham Mackintosh, 1968. Marvin Tatum Collection of Contemporary Literature.

Richard Brautigan, enjoying great success as the foremost hippie writer of the sixties, though still published in small independent presses, here attempts to put into practice his Thoreau-inspired ideals, by producing a book that notes on the back cover, "THIS BOOK IS FREE." Inside are eight seed packets, the seeds of which are to be planted; poems are printed on the colorful envelopes.
